Running an online shop is based on two essential elements: the goods and the customer. The shopping process is only complete when the package arrives whole and sound at the buyer. It is therefore very important that it is packaged properly. So how do you prepare the parcel for the journey and what should you pay special attention to?
Although, on the surface, packing items and preparing them for shipping does not seem very complicated, you need to keep in mind a number of steps to ensure that the parcel reaches the customer safely and does not discourage them from purchasing from your online shop.
The mere granting of parcels is not everything! Above all, you need to take care of its safety, as well as its aesthetics. Properly delivered goods affect the reputation of the brand you are building, so be sure not to underestimate the way your online shop is packaged.
Packing an e-commerce shipment - step by step!
To ensure that the whole shipping process goes smoothly, you need to bear in mind certain tips:
-
Parcel security during travel
The most important aspect of all online shopping is the delivery of an undamaged parcel to the buyer. After all, no one orders an item only to send it back due to defects! It is therefore important to prepare the parcel well for the long journey it will spend among other items in transit.
The first step should be to select the right cardboard box (suitable, i.e. one whose dimensions best match the size of the goods to be shipped). Remember that the free space in the package should not exceed 10 per cent! Also make sure it is not a boring, grey package - aesthetics count too!
If 90 per cent of the parcel is taken up by the goods being shipped, the remaining space should be filled with parcel fillers. These will prevent the packed items from moving, allowing them to be transported safely without fear of any part of the parcel being damaged. Not sure which filler to choose? Check out our tips!
If your parcel contains fragile and delicate items, don't forget to label it specially. All you need to do is put a sticker on it saying "Caution, glass!". This will be for courier a pointer to handle the transported consignment even more carefully than usual.

Appearance and aesthetics of packaging
When you decide to sell goods online, make sure that the packages you send are well presented. Your customer will certainly take notice, and any damage or defects visible on the packaging may deter them from further purchases. Don't overdo it with fillers either - I don't think anyone likes being sent a ton of junk.
The package to be sent should also not lack materials containing your company's logo or name - this can be stickers, tape or a special print on the cardboard box. In this way, you build a good image for your company and your company name will be remembered by the customer for a long, long time. A package prepared in this way is an excellent marketing strategy.
-
Say thank you for your purchases and add something of your own
When it comes to online sales, it is very important to build a relationship with the customer. If we convince them, they are more likely to return to use our services again. It is therefore important to include a thank-you note in the package. This deepens the relationship between buyer and seller, which inspires confidence in the shop and its staff. You can either include a printed thank-you note or write one individually with each purchase - it all depends on the capacity of your e-shop.
Trinkets that the seller includes in the parcel being sent are also welcome. These are usually discount codes for subsequent purchases. This option encourages the buyer to use the e-shop again and place another order. The trinkets may also include items which the seller sells on a daily basis or items with the company logo - they do not have to be valuable items, it is enough that they are associated with your e-shop!
Parcel delivery in an online shop
In an online business, the process of packing and shipping a parcel is extremely important. Preparing and packing your goods is something you must not neglect. The fewer returns due to damaged goods, the more confidence you will have in the business you are building. In addition to packaging, it is also worth using a few tricks that will make it easier - both for you and the customer - to deliver the goods.
A very important aspect is to synchronise your online shop with your shipping system. This will enable you to send your parcels more efficiently and quickly. The automated process will allow you to avoid shipping errors (e.g. missing delivery note), so you won't have to worry about whether the parcel will reach the customer. You can also delegate the packing or storage process to a logistics company. Professional order handling is very important when running an e-shop.
