Online shops are a great way to shop. Sometimes, however, we need one particular item whose price turns out to be much lower than the cost of delivery alone - which, when added up, no longer appeals to us. This is when we start looking for other solutions, including a shop that offers shopping with free delivery. What can you do to take advantage of it?
Usually, when shopping online, we try to keep our costs as low as possible. To do this, we try to buy all the products we need in one place or we look for a shop that offers cheap shipping. If we find a store that offers free shipping, we are even more eager to buy!
It is also worth knowing that the free delivery offered by online shops is a great marketing ploy. Few customers think about what it actually means in practice - i.e. where the money that should be spent on transporting the ordered goods comes from.
Many online shops choose to offer free delivery to encourage customers to use their services. They know how important this treatment is for the customer. In addition, by offering free delivery on a specific amount, they encourage people to make larger purchases, thereby benefiting from increased sales, and the customer spends more on the goods ordered instead of paying for postage. Everyone is happy. In addition, sometimes there are promotional campaigns to encourage online shopping and just as we get the offer of free shipping we can later return the goods, also at no cost. This is the perfect marketing ploy to encourage people to take advantage of the company's offer.
Free delivery in the webshop
Before we start shopping, it is a good idea to check what delivery cost the online shop offers. This allows us to verify whether its price will be profitable for us when buying the desired products. It is also a good idea to take stock of your expenses so that you can estimate whether you will reach the amount needed to get free shipping. This will allow us to possibly look for cheaper options in other online shops. Everyone should also ask themselves how to position the shop in relation to the competition, sometimes free delivery can be an argument for visitors to our site to make a transaction.
The most common forms of delivery offered by e-commerce include delivery by courier, delivery to a Parcel Machine, dispatch by Polish Post, delivery to a collection point or personal collection. These services differ not only in price, but also in the time it takes for the parcel to be delivered.
However, it is important to note that not all products can be ordered using the cheapest shipping method. Much depends on the size of the parcel to be delivered. In this case, free delivery is a great option.
Typically, free delivery is offered when:
- the customer exceeds a certain amount that allows him or her to benefit from free delivery (usually PLN 100-200),
- the customer belongs to a loyalty club, in which participation entails free delivery of all products (a good measure when it comes to building brand-customer relationships),
- an online shop decides to introduce a temporary promotion, in the form of free delivery (a great way to promote your shop),
- e-commerce chooses to ship individual goods for free (usually free shipping applies to high-priced products, such as electronics),
- the online shop offers the option of personal collection at the company's premises or in a stationary shop (this option works best for chain shops that have a lot of stationary counterparts across the country, but is also available for small businesses that allow collection at their premises).
Each of these is a good marketing ploy. Being able to take advantage of free delivery mobilises customers to buy more products. It also builds trust in the brand and encourages future purchases from the same online shop. As a result, it can expect to generate more revenue.
When can an online shop afford free delivery?
Online shops usually decide to introduce free delivery from a certain amount. This is used by Allegro, for example, in its Allegro Smart! offer, allowing free shipping from PLN 40 - also to InPost parcel machines! However, some e-shops can afford to introduce it without setting a monetary threshold that the buyer must exceed. Usually these are large companies that can afford it (e.g. Zalando, which has built its reputation precisely on free deliveries and returns). Therefore, e-commerce newcomers should not use this tactic, as it may prove too risky for their business.
Unconditional free delivery is profitable when the margin is high enough for the shop to be able to cover the cost of delivery from it, while achieving the planned profit. Before implementing this form of delivery, it is therefore worth considering whether the income from the e-shop is sufficient. Otherwise, after introducing charges for something that was previously free of charge, you have to reckon with a drop in interest from regular customers, which, unfortunately, may reflect on the e-shop's reputation.
