Electric cars are growing enormously in popularity year on year. More and more electric cars can also be seen on our streets. Poles are choosing electrics over petrol cars, noting a number of advantages. See for yourself what you can gain by buying an electric vehicle!
Electric cars and savings - electric cars cheaper than petrol?
Although the price of electric cars is quite high, you can reduce the cost of buying a car by up to several thousand. All thanks to subsidies for the purchase of electric cars, which will allow you to save a lot. How much does the cheapest electric car cost once you get the subsidy? The cheapest electric car, the Dacia Spring, in its basic version costs less than 80,000, while with the subsidy it costs less than 60,000.
Despite the high price you have to pay for an electric car, it is definitely cheaper to use. The costs associated with charging the car are often lower than if you fill up your car with petrol.
Driving electric cars is greener
There is much debate about whether driving electric cars is greener. Some believe that an electric car does not immediately mean an environmentally friendly car, others on the contrary. In the final analysis, they turn out to be definitely more environmentally friendly than combustion cars.
Although there is a greater use of carbon dioxide associated with the production of electric cars, their subsequent use has a positive impact on the environment. According to statistics that can be found on the Internet, it appears that within the first few years of using an electric car, the carbon footprint created during its production can be completely reduced. Such cars do not produce harmful carbon dioxide while driving, thus also preventing smog.
In Poland, most electricity comes from burning coal. However, more and more people are opting for renewable energy sources that convert wind or water into electricity. Using these to charge a car on electricity makes the carbon footprint reduce even faster.
Large availability of charging stations for electric cars
Depending on the model, an electric car can cover a distance of 130 km to as much as 400 km on a single charge. For this reason, longer journeys may seem cumbersome, but this is not necessarily the case. In Poland, interest in electrically-powered cars is growing, and as a result, the range of infrastructure allowing the free use of electrics is also increasing. Until a few years ago, it was small, but now it is definitely beginning to catch up with our neighbours.
More and more stations allowing you to charge your car are being set up in car parks along motorways or motorways. As a result, you do not have to worry about running out of electricity for a long journey. In addition, charging stations are also being built at many petrol stations and in the car parks of shops and shopping centres. Increasingly, developers are also setting up charging points in the car parks of new office buildings or housing estates. It is also possible to charge a car while staying in a hotel, as hotel owners are also increasingly choosing to place car chargers in their car parks.
Fast and hassle-free charging of cars on electricity
Charging a car on electricity is not difficult. In many cases, it is even simpler than filling up your car with petrol, and besides, it is even possible in your home. All you need for this is an outlet in the garage or by the place where you usually park your car.
The socket is one of the most common ways of charging a car. However, it is a method that is quite time-consuming, as a small car on electricity, depending on the capacity of the battery, can be charged in this way for more than 30 h, as the intake from the socket is only 2 kWh. The big plus point of such charging is its cheap cost, as, depending on the tariff chosen, the cost of charging is not at all high. However, if you want to charge your car faster, it is worth investing in a Wallbox, which will allow you to charge your car much faster and allow you to charge the battery to full in the course of a few hours. However, this involves additional costs for its installation.
Quickly charging the battery in the car is also possible at many charging stations. However, you have to pay more for this than if you charge your car at home. At some points, the charging power is in the region of 22 kWh and sometimes even higher. In this way, the car is charged much faster and can even be fully charged in less than an hour, but this method is not advisable due to the faster wear and tear of the battery.
Low-cost servicing of electric cars
An electric car also saves a lot of money on servicing. Its plus point is that it does not require as much servicing as combustion cars. Although it is a modern car, it is not as complicated as it might seem.
The basis of an electric car is a drivetrain with far fewer parts. In addition, there is no need to change timing belts, engine oil or air filters in an electric car. In addition, there is less need to replace brake components. This is because, when braking, you recover some of the energy that was used to accelerate, so the brake discs do not wear out as quickly.
If you drive an electric car, you need to remember the basic maintenance of this type of car. This will ensure that you don't make mistakes that could result in a major fault. One of the things you need to take care of is changing the battery coolant regularly, as well as changing the oil in the drive gear. This should be done approximately every four years. It is also worth remembering to change the cabin filter or basic fluids such as windscreen washer fluid, for example.
Repairs to electrics should be carried out in dedicated service centres, the number of which in Poland is constantly increasing. They are equipped with the right tools for servicing electric cars. As a result, in the event of problems with the car, when you go to such a service, the diagnostician can see what is happening on the screen of the device. He or she can also carry out an efficient and safe repair with the right products.
Bus lanes, free parking and entrances to special zones for electric car drivers
Owning an electric car in Poland is also associated with a number of benefits on the road that users of combustion cars cannot enjoy. These are particularly useful for people driving electrics around town, but they must have certain markings. Special stickers used to help identify electric cars. Since 2020, however, you do not have to put them on, as green number plates serve as their identifiers.
One such benefit is the possibility to drive on bus lanes. In larger cities, these are mainly for public transport buses and taxis, as well as any service vehicles such as fire brigades, police or ambulance services. If you have an electric car, you too can use a bus lane to avoid traffic jams. The Electromobility Act will make bus lanes available for electric cars by 2026. In addition to this, a huge benefit for electric car drivers is the possibility of parking for free in paid parking zones.
Other benefits include entry to special zones in cities. Their creation is supposed to contribute to reducing carbon dioxide emissions and also prevent smog. If you own an electric car, you can enter such zones free of charge. In addition to this, some cities allow electric cars to drive on streets that are excluded from car traffic.
More and more car manufacturers such as BMW, Audi and Volkswagen, for example, are choosing to develop electric cars. Electric cars without a driving licence, such as the Citroen Ami, are also starting to appear on the market. It is worth taking an interest in this type of car, as electric models do not differ from combustion cars in any way, apart from how they are powered. They offer the same driving comfort and customisability, as well as the same, if not greater, levels of efficiency and safety.
