Are you running your company's fanpage? Find out more about the dimensions of graphics!
29 April 2020
Producing interesting and engaging posts requires a great deal of creativity. It is becoming increasingly difficult to genuinely interest audiences as they are confronted with a multitude of different messages on a daily basis. It is worth remembering that content is not everything - graphics in particular attract attention. What size graphics should be for publishing on Facebook?
Facebook fanpage - why run it?
There is huge promotional and advertising potential in social media, but not only. Your potential customers spend time on popular portals, so you are able to interest them in your offer and build closer relationships. Internet users will get to know your brand, which will certainly result in increased sales in the future. Facebook is a great tool for communicating with your audience - you can keep internet users up to date with current promotions, blog posts, new products or services and remind them of your offer. In addition, you will establish a dialogue, which will help to reduce the distance between your company and the person on the other side of the screen. All the comments from consumers, their opinions and reviews are also very valuable, so you can find out what needs to be improved. A website and a well-run Facebook fanpage will play an important role in promoting your brand and will help to build the right brand image. Remember that a company's Facebook page has many more functions than a private profile, and provides valuable user data and helpful statistics. However, in order for Facebook to serve its full purpose, you need to take its maintenance seriously. Publish posts regularly, respond to comments and messages, carry out advertising activities and ensure high-quality graphics. There is nothing worse than a profile with nothing happening and a lack of interaction with users.
Facebook graphic dimensions - what are the guidelines?
If you want to produce an effective advert or upload a post with a sharp and non-fuzzy graphic, you need to be aware of the applicable dimensions. This is because Facebook has specific guidelines to follow. For this reason, we have compiled all the useful and up-to-date information on image sizes for Facebook advertising and more. You will no longer be puzzled by the technical aspects of your graphics!
Dimensions of Facebook graphics:
- profile photo (avatar): 170 X 170 px - you could try uploading a file with a slightly higher resolution, e.g. 600 X 600 px then the photo will look good on any device;
- background photo (cover photo): 820 X 312 px, for mobile devices: 640 X 360 px;
- graphics for regular board posts: horizontal: 1200 X 900 px, vertical: 640 X 960 px, square: 1200 X 1200 px;
- graphics for the event: 1200 X 628 px - this size gives us the guarantee that the image will not be cropped - even on smartphones;
- video in post: 9:16 to 16:9 - maximum file size is 4GB, video duration: from one second to 240 minutes;
Dimensions of Facebook graphics - adverts:
- traditional horizontal advertising: 1200 X 628 px - preferably in .png format, not .jpg;
- carousel: 1080 X 1080 px - we have between two and ten tabs available for this type of post;
- Canvas: 9:16 or 1:1 - will only display on mobile devices;
- Slideshow: 9:16 or 16:9.
Important: to ensure that Facebook does not reject your ad, try to keep the text on the graphic as short as possible - it can take up a maximum of 20% of the whole image to ensure clarity and browsing convenience. Otherwise, Facebook will reduce the reach of your post - it will then not reach many audiences and will become less effective.
Facebook graphics - what format?
All image files created for posts should be saved in .png format, as the popular .jpg format distorts colours, which can significantly affect image quality. Posts published on Facebook are viewed by users on computer screens and mobile devices, so remember to set the colour scheme to sRGB mode. Another important parameter is resolution, which should be a minimum of 72 dpi.
Facebook advertising dimensions - how do you create graphics yourself?
Do you think that the creation of posts for social media can only be handled by specialists? Not necessarily. Of course, it's always a good idea to enlist the help of professional graphic designers, but you can also manage this task yourself. All you need is a sense of aesthetics, knowledge of current graphic trends and a graphics program - there are many free and easy-to-use solutions on the internet these days. For starters, try Canva and Gimp. You can use them to create simple and clear graphics from a range of ready-made templates. You don't need to invest in professional, advanced graphics programmes that require experience and extensive knowledge.
