In today's business market, competition is fierce, which is why entrepreneurs strive for the best possible development of both companies and employees. Diversity and Inclusion - what does it mean, what are its characteristics and why is it important in business?
Diversity and Inclusion, or what is diversity and inclusion in business terms?
In business terms, the increasingly popular concept of Diversity and Inclusion means taking advantage of the diversity of the people who make up a team. Each employee joins the team with a different set of experiences, distinct interests and, above all, different predispositions. Diversity and Inclusion assumes that the manager is able to pick up on these qualities and develop them in a way that benefits the company as a whole and the individual.
Such measures allow all employees to be treated equally and to feel comfortable in their working environment. No one is excluded on the basis of gender, experience, nationality or any other characteristics. D&I is proof that even a very diverse team is able to work together towards goals and achieve them in an effective way. The ability to benefit from diversity is key.
What are the characteristics of the Diversity and Inclusion policy?
Diversity and Inclusion is characterised by making every employee feel comfortable in his or her own workplace. It combats exclusion and makes pervasive respect and tolerance an overriding value in the company.
When a company operates in the D&I stream, communication is very important. For example, one-on-one conversations with managers or the organisation of integrations are used. All this is done in order to get to know each other better and to create an atmosphere of mutual respect.
In such a system of action, it is the manager who plays an important role, as he is the one with whom each employee has the most contact. How the employees feel and whether their needs are met largely depends on him or her. The person in this position must be very understanding, patient and empathetic.
An example of companies operating on such principles is InPost. Employees have the opportunity not only for personal development, but also to contribute to the well-being of the environment at the same time.
Why is D&I important for a company?
D&I makes employees feel more at home in a given company, so that they perform their duties more willingly and effectively. This in turn translates into, among other things, financial gains for the company. By implementing D&I, the company gains a reputation for being modern, innovative and open, and candidates want to work there. In addition, it strengthens bonds between team members and contributes to the fight against exclusion outside the company as well.
