LED banner – energy-efficient advertising for any sector?

With so many adverts around, it’s hard to catch a potential customer’s attention. In such circumstances, static posters often prove to be insufficient. One of the most effective marketing tools is modern LED banners, which combine bright, dynamic content with the ability to precisely manage display times.
What are LED banners?
An LED banner is text display or alphanumeric display designed to display information that may be of interest to passers-by. LED displays are used for advertising purposes, as well as to show information about events, the weather, traffic conditions and cultural events.
Due to their high visibility, dynamic messaging and the ability to update content quickly, LED banners are regarded as one of the most effective forms of advertising in public spaces.
These banners are fitted with LED modules (e.g. SMD) that emit vibrant colours and high image quality. Depending on the resolution used, the screen can be legible even from several dozen metres away. Modern LED controllers allow not only images and text to be displayed, but also animations, the current date, time or temperature.

Types of LED banners
LED banners combine the capabilities of two older advertising methods – poster (both small- and large-format) and neon, and the screens are mainly installed on the streets. There are four types of devices.
- Citylight – a popular type of LED banner, which is placed at eye level. They are increasingly taking the form of digital displays featuring dynamic video content, shown at bus stops, in shopping centres and on the screens of Paczkomat® parcel lockers, amongst other places.
- Digital billboard – Unlike citylight banners, a digital billboard is exclusively an outdoor LED advertisement. Its high resolution and large format make it a key medium for DOOH (Digital Out-of-Home) advertising.
- Text screen – the smallest, but no less effective, form of advertising. It usually takes the form of a single-colour display with a scrolling message, used, for example, by transport operators and event organisers.
- LED recessed lights – It is also worth mentioning LED advertising lightboxes, which often take the form of backlit boxes that can be mounted on one or both sides, and are particularly popular at local service outlets.
Key technical specifications of LED screens
- Brightness of over 5,000 nits and automatic adjustment via a twilight sensor.
- Resolution depends on the number of pixels per square metre (e.g. P5, P10), which determines legibility.
- LED technology – most commonly SMD, ensuring a long service life (up to 100,000 hours).
- IP protection rating – usually IP65 or IP67, which provides protection against dust and rain.
- Temperature resistance in the range from -30°C to +50°C.
- Low energy consumption and high energy efficiency.
Remote control and programming of adverts
LED displays can programme using dedicated software and manage content remotely via Wi-Fi, USB, LAN, mobile apps and a timer. Built-in memory allows content to be played without a constant connection to a computer. It is possible to advance emission planning, e.g. for specific times on specific days.
The visual potential of dynamic advertising campaigns
LEDs make it possible to broadcasting of dynamic content – from text scrolling in marquee mode, through to 2D/3D animations, pulsing, rotating or fading-in effects. It is also possible to displaying local data, such as the time, temperature or public transport updates. All of this makes an LED banner an effective visual marketing tool, far more effective than static adverts.
Customised designs and mobile LED advertising displays
LED screen suppliers offer the following options:
- selection of non-standard sizes,
- colour configuration (RGB, single-colour),
- the construction of single- or double-sided signs,
- integration with vehicles (mobile advertising),
- to match the façades of buildings or free-standing structures.
LED banners can be found use on buses, advertising vehicles, multimedia trailers and even trams.
