Footwear is a delicate commodity that requires special packaging. For this reason, it is so important to find an effective and safe way to ship them. What is the best way to pack shoes for shipping so that they reach the recipient without damage? This short step-by-step guide will explain, showing the next steps and materials needed to prepare the parcel.
How do I prepare my shoes for shipping?
Leather or any other shoe material is not resistant to mechanical damage. For this reason, the issue you need to pay attention to first is finding the right material to wrap the package in. How do you pack shoes for courier delivery so that they do not get damaged? Grey paper is often used for this purpose, which actually protects the shoes quite effectively. An even better choice, however, is bubble wrap. Not only does it protect the surface of the shoes from scratches and tears, but it also cushions the shocks that can easily occur during transport.
Shock-proofing shoes avoids damage to their hard parts, such as buckles, buckles and other decorative elements. Protection with bubble wrap is particularly important when packing shoes with heels that can break. If you do not have any bubble wrap on hand, you can also use other materials, such as rolled up paper newspapers, instead.
Ways to pack shoes for shipping
Items bought online are often returned because they do not meet the expectations of the person ordering the goods. This practice particularly applies to clothing and shoes, which fortunately can be sent back to the shops quickly without consequences. In order for the parcel to be accepted and the money for the clothes or shoes to be refunded, however, they must return intact. How do you pack a box of shoes for shipment to ensure that they reach the recipient in impeccable condition? It is essential to fill it out.
The material for filling the shoe box should occupy the entire surface around the shoes. This will prevent them from sliding around in the box and thus rubbing against the surface and scratching it. The filling should therefore be soft. In addition to this, it must also be lightweight so as not to add unnecessary weight to the parcel. This will make it possible to send the shoes as cheaply as possible, i.e. to avoid a surcharge for the larger size. Both of these conditions are met:
- grey paper;
- polystyrene pellets or foam;
- scropak;
- for some shoes also air-filled bags.
How do I pack my shoes for shipping in their original packaging?
It is not only important how, but also in what to pack the shoes for shipping. The best for this will be the original cardboard box in which they were delivered. It is sized to fit the goods so that the amount of space over which the shoes can slide is kept to a minimum. In addition, the original packaging is usually of high quality, as manufacturers take great care to make their products look aesthetically pleasing.
It is also worth remembering that in the event of a return, the seller will most likely want to receive the footwear in what it was packaged in when the order was processed. If, on the other hand, you are selling or sending footwear to someone and you do not have the original box, use a cardboard box for packing. The most important thing is that the shoes are not squashed in it. The cardboard box will allow good cushioning of the inside of the parcel, so definitely a foil packet or envelope alone is not enough to pack the shoes.
Whether the original carton or another carton is used for shipping, there is no getting around it without additional protection. The opening at the top should be sealed with tape and, if necessary, the bottom as well. However, many shoeboxes do not have a slit, but have a lid. In this case, taping its sides may lead to damage to the box when trying to open it. Instead, it is better to use a stretcher, wrap it tightly around the package and seal it with tape where the ends meet. It is advisable to use strong tape used for packing parcels and not the office tape. Another way is to wrap such a box or carton in a suitably sized foil pack. Courier foil is equipped with a strong and resistant adhesive.
Another option that will ensure that the shoes are delivered in their original packaging intact is the 'carton to carton' method. What does it involve? It is the use of an extra, larger carton (in addition to the one for the shoes) and the proper filling of the space between the outer carton and the inner carton. Of course, the carton should be in good condition and the space filled so that the inner packaging does not move. By packing in this way, not only will the shoes arrive intact, but also their box - without bends, dents or scratches.
Finally, it remains to send the parcel. At InPost, you can send via the InPost Mobile app or the Fast Shipment service. Properly securing your parcel and sending it via Paczkomat® is the key to success for a smooth and safe parcel shipment.
