The Witcher at Parcel Lockers
1 June 2015
It goes without saying that all three instalments of the game were developed by the Polish studio CD Projekt RED, just as it goes without saying that the launch took place on 19 May this year. The most loyal and eager fans of The Witcher – and there were as many as 7,000 of them – collected their copies from Parcel Lockers on 18 May, just after 11.00 pm.
The Witcher from the Parcel Locker
Delivering all parcels at exactly the same time to parcel lockers located throughout the country was a major logistical challenge, one for which we had been preparing for several weeks. As Konrad Osiadacz said in an interview with cdp.pl, the most difficult part was:
“Keeping the entire operation under strict secrecy and ‘sealing off’ all possible channels through which information might reach the recipient prematurely. Parcel lockers are generally a very open, transparent service designed to meet customer expectations. In the case of the launch of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, we had to implement non-standard solutions in certain areas, such as not sending an email notification when a parcel was deposited, additional precautions within our internal systems, and the coordination of distribution within a short timeframe to 1,024 parcel lockers, whilst ensuring an unchanged level of service for our other customers.”
Players collected their prized parcels from 1,024 Parcel Lockers. The first game was collected just one minute after 11.00 pm in Elbląg. Statistics showed that 50 per cent of all parcels containing the game were collected from just six cities: Gdańsk, Kraków, Łódź, Opole, Poznań, Szczecin and Warsaw. The largest number of games – as many as 54 copies – were collected from the WAW11A parcel locker (Warsaw, Górczewska Street).
In Gdańsk, outside the GDA913 parcel locker on Grunwaldzka Street, two beautiful cosplayers dressed as Yennefer and Ciri handed out a pack of Witcher merchandise to fans of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and a few lucky ones even managed to snag a kiss from them. Before collecting their parcels, there was a palpable sense of tension and anticipation amongst the crowd gathered at the parcel locker, which later gave way to pure joy, captured in group photos.
On 18 May, at 11.35 pm, he appeared on our Fan page The first post featuring photos of the lucky winners collecting their games. Despite the late hour, it attracted plenty of comments and nearly 200 likes. So it was also a busy time for the social media team.
InPost Competition
Everyone who collected their game from a Parcel Locker was able to take part in the #WiedźminWPaczkomacie competition, organised in collaboration with cdp.pl and LG. Entries could be submitted from 12 to 26 May. The jury had a difficult choice, but in the end, the most creative and original entries submitted by Remigiusz and chinaa92, as well as the film created by Łukasz, were recognised. You can view the selected photographs on the cdp.pl fan page. Congratulations to the winners!
