What to look out for when choosing an electric car up to 125k?

Electric cars are becoming more and more popular every year. However, the rate of their uptake is much slower than expected by car companies and governments. The reason for this is the high prices of electric cars. In addition to the very expensive models, there are also those that more people can afford.

Drivers interested in cars in this price segment must be prepared for a number of compromises. This is because it should be known that electric cars up to PLN 125,000 are those with the lowest performance and comfort. They are therefore usually vehicles intended for city driving.

What electric cars can you buy at this amount of money? Compact car models that will do well when parking in tight city streets. However, the small dimensions are associated with certain concessions. Batteries with a small capacity do not provide a long range. They need to be recharged after 130-270 km of driving. The engines of electric cars also do not offer high power and top speed.

The price affecting what electric cars are available for up to £125k also translates into driver and passenger amenities. Cars with basic equipment are available in this segment. The small size of the vehicles also affects the limited capacity of the boot. These are cars designed to carry everyday shopping rather than to pack luggage for a longer trip.

Electric cars up to 125,000 and subsidy - how much will the subsidy for an 'electric car' be

Importantly, the amount spent on an 'electric car' can be further reduced thanks to a government scheme providing subsidies for an electric car. The assumptions made in the programme facilitating the electrification of transport make it possible to benefit from a subsidy of nearly PLN 18 thousand. Holders of Large Family Cards can get PLN 27 thousand from the subsidy.

The subsidies for electric vehicles under the 'My Electrician' programme also extend to entrepreneurs. It is also important to note that not only subsidies are granted. Support can also be obtained for leasing.

What kind of subsidised electric car can you buy? Only a new one. Electric car subsidies do not apply to used vehicles. Hybrid models are also not covered by the subsidy. Applications can be made on the programme's website on the internet. Importantly, the processing of applications also applies to vehicles already purchased or leased.

Electric cars up to 125k - examples of the top 5 models on the Polish market

Electric cars up to PLN 125 000 are a vehicle category in which the choice of models is very limited. However, the presence of representatives of various recognised car brands can be welcomed. Below, we present a few of them.

Dacia Spring Comfort

Owned by the French Renault, the Dacia brand has for years specialised in offering products at an attractive price. It is no different with the Spring Comfort, the cheapest electric car you can buy in Poland. Its price is less than PLN 80 000 for the basic version. An additional charge for an electric car will bring the price down to even less than 60 thousand PLN.

The Dacia Spring Comfort is equipped with a 27.4 kWh battery. The maximum range of the vehicle is 230 km. The advantage of this model is charging. It takes only 1.5 hours to fully charge the batteries. This time can be achieved at a fast charging station. When connected to a domestic socket, this car, like all electrics, takes several hours to charge.

This vehicle has a 45 hp engine and accelerates to a maximum of 125 km/h. The advantages of this car include its off-road car appearance and spacious interior. It is a good car for customers who are primarily concerned with travel comfort rather than performance.

Škoda Citigo and iV

More expensive by several thousand than the Dacia Spring Comfort, the small Škoda is one of the most popular electric cars in Poland. The 36.8 kWh battery inside it allows it to travel up to 260 km. Those using fast chargers can top up the Škoda CitiGo e iV in 1.5 hours.

The 83 hp engine is sufficient for speeds of up to 130 km/h. The basic Ambition version does not lack additional safety options, such as adjacent lane tracking. LED headlights are also included. The higher Style variant is additionally equipped with, among other things, tinted side windows and boot lids.

Fiat 500e

Turin's stylish city car is the latest among electrics to be offered for less than £100,000. There are two profiles of this car, thanks to which you can buy a truly unique vehicle. In fact, it is the only electric car under 125 thousand PLN available in Poland in a convertible version.

It is not just the looks that are noteworthy here. The Fiat 500e with its 42 kWh batteries can travel up to 280 km on a single charge. This alone takes between 4 and 8 hours depending on the charging speed. It is also distinguished from other small cars by its engine output of 118 hp. The car can accelerate to 135 km/h.

It is more of a two-seater vehicle. The amount of space in the rear may be too small for many adults. For this reason, the rear bench seat works more as extra luggage space. Furthermore, unlike the combustion version of the Fiat 500, there is unfortunately no 5-door version.

Nissan Leaf

This electric car up to PLN 125 000 is, according to statistics, the most popular electric car in Poland. In the version within the assumed price ceiling, it has a battery with a capacity of 40 kWh. The stored amount of electricity is sufficient to drive approximately 270 km. However, errors were not avoided in its design. Despite having a similar capacity to that of the Fiat 500e, it takes between 7.5 and 13 hours to charge from a wall charger, or wallbox (depending on its power) and 21 hours from the socket.

The Nissan Leaf's greatest strengths are its spacious passenger cabin and performance. Almost 4.5 m long and 1.8 m wide provide just the right amount of space for five people. The boot is also large. Its capacity is 435 litres, and 1178 litres when the rear bench seat is folded down, and it is divided ⅔ by ⅓, allowing the luggage space to be comfortably managed according to the number of passengers.

The 150 hp engine gives a driving speed of up to 144 km/h. The on-board display provides, among other things, information about the vehicle in the blind spot, warnings about accidental lane changes and the provision of traffic information from the transverse direction.

Renault Zoe

The vehicle with the longest range of those mentioned above is the Renault Zoe. Its large battery (54.7 kWh) allows it to travel up to 386 km on a single charge. Even so, connecting to a fast charger for an hour is enough to recharge it. For the 7 kW wall unit (wallbox), this is just over nine hours.

The Renault Zoe is a slightly smaller vehicle than the Nissan Leaf. It measures just over 4m wide and almost 2m wide. The 108-horsepower engine allows driving speeds of up to 135 km. In the category of electric cars up to £125k, it is also the most expensive vehicle. Indeed, its cheapest version, the One, costs PLN 124 900. Grants for electric cars can reduce this cost to around PLN 100 000.

What is included in the equipment of the Renault Zoe variant One? On board are, for example, side airbags and LED lights. The driving experience is also made more pleasant by a pre-cooling or pre-heating system before entering the cabin. The manufacturer also took care of, among other things, heated mirrors, a more than 10-inch screen on the dashboard and keyless entry using a card.

Which electric cars under 125k have the best range?

Electric cars under £125k are not usually vehicles that match the range of more expensive competitors. Designed primarily for city driving, they usually achieve an average of 250 km. Against the background of such vehicles, only the Renault Zoe stands out positively.

Not only does the French car have a range that far exceeds that of its competitors (386 km), but also a battery that nevertheless does not take too long to charge. The combination of these two features shows that creating a car that combines good performance and a competitive price is entirely possible.

Which electric car up to 125,000 charges fastest?

Identifying a winner in the range category is far simpler than in the classification of the fastest-charging cars. Both the Dacia Spring Comfort, the Škoda Citigo e iV and the Renault Zoe can be ready to drive after just 1.5 hours of charging.

However, it must be remembered that the use of fast chargers should only be a necessity. Lithium-ion batteries that are charged with a high current will degrade quickly. It is therefore best to charge them using cables, wallboxes and charging stations with lower power. It will then take several to several hours for each of these car models to top up. The only exception to this is the Nissan Leaf, which has the slowest charging battery among the cars in this ranking.

Which electric car up to 125,000 leaves the smallest carbon footprint?

The carbon footprint, i.e. the emission of carbon dioxide (CO₂) for every 1 km driven, is a problem that cannot be eliminated with combustion cars. This is why electromobility has gained in popularity. Electric vehicles do not produce a carbon footprint because they do not generate exhaust gases. Therefore, they do not have exhaust pipes.

So whether they are electric cars up to £125,000 or more expensive models, you can be sure that they do not contribute to CO₂ emissions. A problem that is still unresolved, however, is the production of electricity.

Its extraction from renewable sources is not yet fully developed. Most of the world's electricity is generated in environmentally unfriendly coal and nuclear power plants. Changing this is likely to be a landmark step in making electric transport completely green.

Which electric car up to 125k is best to bet on?

The answer to the question of which electric cars up to PLN 125 000 are the most recommendable is not simple. After all, it depends on one's financial possibilities and the purpose of the car. After all, not every person needs a larger vehicle with a long range. On the other hand, a compact car just for the city will not be good for everyone.

Regardless of the size of your wallet, it is pleasing to know that electric cars can be purchased with a subsidy of up to 125,000. In the case of the cheapest vehicles, this can amount to as much as ¼ of the car price. This in turn makes it possible to save money, for example for the purchase of a more expensive car variant. The money saved thanks to the rebate can also be used to purchase an optional wall charger.

An analysis of the price of electric cars begs the question - why are electric cars so expensive? The high cost of manufacturing batteries contributes to pushing up prices. Limited production is also a factor. It is still smaller than that of combustion vehicles. It will probably be many years before they are replaced by electric cars. Subsidies may help, but it is to be hoped that they will become cheaper as the years go by.
