There has been a lot of talk recently about electric cars, which manufacturers assume have a better impact on the environment. Various organisations are persuading us to switch from an internal combustion car to an electric car, and the government is encouraging this through the 'My Electric' programme. Through it, you can get a grant for an electric car. In this article, we show you how to fill in an application for a grant to buy an electric car and what the rules of the programme are.
Where and what application should I make to get an electric car grant?
Applications for an electric car grant can be submitted online and signed using a trusted profile. All this can be done on the website of the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFOŚiGW) in the application generator. In the case of a leased electric car purchase, the subsidy application must be submitted to the leasing company of your choice.
It is worth remembering that this is not a subsidy for hybrids, as the programme only covers subsidies for electric cars. The car must also be new, used cars are not subsidised. The price of such a vehicle cannot also exceed PLN 225,000, although this condition does not apply to purchasers with the Large Family Card. The application should only be submitted after the purchase of the car, as there are certain conditions to be met (more on this later in the article).
Who can apply for an electric car grant?
Anyone can apply for subsidies for an electric car, whether individuals, companies, partnerships or various institutions. The call for applications runs from 2021. Individuals can apply from 12 July and others from 22 November. The good news is that those who have not yet made up their minds have until 30 September 2025 (unless stocks, i.e. funding, run out before then). So it is better to make a decision sooner.
How much is the subsidy for an electric car from the 'My Electrician' programme?
The subsidy for an electric car is not the same in all cases, and the amount of the subsidy depends on several factors: on the entity that applies and the type of vehicle. An individual will get PLN 18,750 in subsidies, and up to PLN 27,000 from KDR. The same amount can be obtained for M1 category vehicles, i.e. vehicles intended for passenger transport with no more than nine seats (including the driver).
On the other hand, a surcharge of up to PLN 70,000 can be expected for N1 category vehicles (intended for the carriage of cargo with a total weight of up to 3.5 tonnes). The least is obtained for L category vehicles (two-wheelers or three-wheelers) - PLN 4,000. However, the exact amount of subsidy for an electric car will be calculated separately for each applicant.
What should you bear in mind when applying for an electric car grant?
Applying for an electric car grant is not a complicated process, but it is important to do your due diligence to avoid the form being withdrawn for correction or re-filling. Currently, many applications are being withdrawn, mainly due to oversights and incomplete submitted rulings. So what should you pay particular attention to? First and foremost, the issue of taking out an AC policy and the bit about including a second person using the vehicle. According to the rules of the scheme, the vehicle subsidy is for one person and the car cannot be transferred to another individual, let alone a company.
The car to be subsidised has to be registered in the territory of Poland and cannot be re-registered within two years of purchase, especially abroad. For 24 months after registration, it is necessary to drive with a special NFOŚiGW sticker (placed in a visible place on the vehicle). During the same period, the fund has the right to inspect the vehicle and its documents (in particular the current third-party liability insurance and AC policy). If, before the expiry of these two years, someone wishes to sell the car or is forced to dispose of it for disposal, the NFOŚiGW will require repayment of the subsidy in proportion to the vehicle's useful life.
For example, if someone sells the vehicle after six months, they will have to give back the amount of the subsidy they are entitled to for another 18 months. What else to look out for when subsidising a car in 2022? This AC policy must necessarily be with an assignment in favour of the NFOŚiGW, otherwise the application will be withdrawn. If the application is also made on behalf of a co-owner of the vehicle, a power of attorney and a special agreement will need to be submitted.
You already know how to get a grant for an electric car and which aspects to pay special attention to. Subsidies can be used by individuals as well as businesses, so it is worth applying if you are planning to buy an electric car.
