What a courier company offers: Warsaw

No courier company can afford to neglect Poland’s largest and most important city. Official figures state that Warsaw has a population of almost 1.8 million, but these figures do not take into account, for example, the more than 200,000 students who study and even live in Warsaw but are still registered as living with their mothers. Added to this are all those who work in Warsaw but live in one of the many towns and villages on the outskirts of the city. And because this is Warsaw, these outlying towns and villages can be as far as 100 km away. According to some, Łódź is one such town – there are residents of Łódź who work in Warsaw and commute by train every day. This represents a considerable number of potential customers for a company offering courier services. People from all over Poland come to Warsaw for various reasons and send parcels here.

InPost in Warsaw

If we define the Warsaw area as comprising the towns from which people commute to Warsaw for work, then within the ‘Warsaw and surrounding areas’ region, we invite customers to collect and post parcels at one of the Paczkomat parcel lockers or service points in Warsaw, and if we also include the areas where people who commute to work in the capital live, there are even more of them. Paczkomat parcel lockers operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, whilst partner service points (PaczkoPunkty) are usually open for at least 8 hours on working days. It is best to check the current number and locations regularly at inpost.pl/znajdz-paczkomat, because the network is growing month on month.

Warsaw City Courier

Warsaw certainly has more than one local company offering courier services within the city, such as bicycle couriers. However, the sheer abundance of such offers can in itself be a problem for the customer. On the one hand, thanks to the large number of options available on the local market, you have plenty of choice; on the other hand, how do you go about making that choice? Go ahead and choose a courier firm, even if you know nothing about them. The advantage of such small firms handling deliveries within the city is their good knowledge of the city’s specific characteristics and their ability to tailor services to local conditions. At the same time, however, it is sometimes unclear which of these firms can be trusted. Look at it this way: when driving a long distance, especially on business, you’re more likely to stop at a petrol station belonging to a well-known chain than at some roadside café. Why? Because you’re familiar with what they offer and you know you can count on a consistent standard of service and cleanliness, good customer care and a predictable waiting time for your order. On the other hand, such a roadside café might be brilliant – offering a unique selection of local dishes, a fantastic ‘dish of the day’ for 10 zł, locally sourced fruit and excellent customer service – but it could also be a complete disaster – you’ll have to wait an hour for a cold frozen pizza, the staff will be brusque, and the loo will be filthy, not to mention the dubious company of the local customers. When you use a well-known brand, you simply feel safer. Especially if you’re returning home from a business trip, rather than travelling the world for leisure. In business, predictability and reliability matter more than local colour. Similarly, when looking for courier If you’re looking for a local courier service that can deliver parcels efficiently within Warsaw, you might be better off opting for a well-known courier provider with an established reputation, nationwide coverage and a high standard of service. This is particularly important if you only use courier services of this kind from time to time and do not have a preferred company, or if you are just looking to get in touch with a courier who will deliver your parcels within the city.

This is where the InPost courier (in his distinctive yellow-and-grey jacket) steps in with the ‘Kurier’ service, available until 10/12/17. This is a service for businesses that need a predictable delivery time — a parcel posted in Warsaw will reach the recipient anywhere in Poland on the next working day, by a chosen cut-off time: 10:00, 12:00 or 17:00. The earlier the guaranteed delivery time, the higher the service charge. To benefit from this guarantee, the parcel must be handed over to the courier or dropped off at a collection point before the relevant cut-off time applicable to the given zone/location — it is always worth checking the exact cut-off times in the current price list and terms and conditions on inpost.pl, as they vary by location and are subject to change.

Kurier – Warsaw – Business

Why is it worth using a city courier service at all? From a business owner’s perspective, Warsaw has numerous advantages. Poland’s transport network means that Warsaw is extremely well connected to the whole country, and thanks to the airport and international rail links, you can conveniently do business with anyone in the world. The proximity of government offices is also a significant factor, meaning you don’t have to waste a whole day – or even 2–3 days – travelling to Warsaw to sort out administrative matters in the capital. However, what attracts entrepreneurs to all major cities (Warsaw is no exception here, though Poland has no larger city) is access to numerous potential business partners and customers in the local market. Companies operating in smaller towns often have to contend with the challenges posed by liaising with customers and, more importantly, with potential business partners based in other towns. Poland may not be a large country in terms of territory, but even so, transporting materials or documents can be a hassle. That is why courier services are so important for such companies, as they enable parcels to be delivered quickly (even the very next day).

Of course, Warsaw offers no guarantee of finding a client or partner, but there is nevertheless much greater potential here for making contacts in person. However, when it comes to Warsaw, ‘in person’ does not necessarily mean within easy reach. We all know how difficult transport (of people and goods) can be from one end of Warsaw to the other during rush hour. This is particularly true if a company’s office or production facility is located on the outskirts of the city (because, let’s not kid ourselves, office space prices in central Warsaw are astronomical). At the same time, when working with partners across Warsaw, the time it takes for standard courier deliveries to reach the customer seems slightly absurd. It’s hard to expect anyone to wait two days for a parcel to be delivered from Żoliborz. We wrap up a conversation over the phone or online and would like to finalise the transaction in person on the very same working day. And not everything can be sorted out simply by sending files via email. Nor are we always able to send an employee to deliver parcels. Not every company has a full-time driver or courier, or even a company car. And after all, our employee isn’t going to be travelling all over Warsaw on trams (the public transport system in Warsaw is good, but not that good). Nor can we really count on an employee using their own car, as not everyone has one and not everyone drives to work (parking prices and traffic jams in Warsaw are what they are, and many people opt for public transport, leaving their car at home). Above all, employees have their duties, and we don’t pay them to waste time stuck in traffic jams. Local courier services are the solution to this problem.
