Green solutions are growing in popularity. A large number of electrics can be seen on the roads, which, unlike combustion cars, are zero-emission. How many electric cars are registered in Poland? Is it profitable to invest in an ecological car in our country? We answer these and other questions in the article!
Electric car registration in Poland - how many cars are currently on Polish roads?
More and more electric cars are appearing on Polish roads every year. Thanks to the website of the Polish Automotive Industry Association and the Polish Alternative Fuels Association and their electromobility counter, it is possible to find out how many electric cars are currently registered in Poland. The statistics help to assess and draw conclusions as to the purchasing trends of drivers. This may help to find a solution on how to encourage others to make the switch.
2022 shows that the number of green car advocates is steadily increasing. At the end of June 2022, more than 46,676 electric vehicles were registered in Poland, of which 24,200 were Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) cars. The rest, or a total of 22,476, were Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) cars.
How does Poland compare to Europe in terms of registered electric cars?
Electric vehicles have many advantages. The most important, however, is that they are emission-free and do not produce exhaust fumes that contribute to global warming and pollute the air. Many people undertake to change their cars to so-called green registrations. But how does Poland compare with other European countries? Can we boast of being an ecological nation? Unfortunately, the answer is no. Despite the fact that the number of electric cars in Poland is increasing year by year, and 2022 in particular showed that the choice of green solutions among compatriots is more frequent, Poland compares badly with other European countries. Poland, along with the Czech Republic and Slovakia, is in last place in the ranking of the number of registered electric cars.
However, over the years there has been a significant increase in the creation of the necessary electric car charging stations, which also determine whether people will be ready to switch cars.
Does Poland have the right infrastructure for electric cars?
One of the reasons why electric cars in Poland are not as popular as in other countries in Europe is the lack of a properly adapted infrastructure for electric cars. But what does this actually mean? Electrics require access to chargers in order to fully charge the battery. At present, there are still an insufficient number of charging stations in Poland, which causes problems for long-distance driving. An additional problem is that electric cars take quite a long time to charge. The public is used to driving up to a station and filling up the car in a few minutes. With electric vehicles, more patience is needed, as it can take up to 24 hours to fully charge the battery. Another problem is that many people in big cities cannot provide their own charger for an electric car. This is called a wallbox, which has to be attached to a wall, preferably in a garage.
The lack of access to charging stations for electrics on highways is also a problem, and these are necessary to charge the vehicle at any time. It should be remembered that a fully charged electric car can be driven for about 200-400 km, depending on the manufacturer.
Various subsidies are available in Poland for the purchase of electric cars. However, this is not a sufficient reason to change an ordinary car for its emission-free version. As long as the car transport infrastructure is not adapted to electromobility, the public will not decide to change their cars. In addition, there would be long queues at charging stations in large cities, and waiting for one's turn would take several or several hours.
