Another network introduces safe and environmentally friendly delivery
InPost - the leader in modern logistics in Poland - has made over 9,000 of its devices available to the IKEA shop chain. Customers can order products to them that fit into parcels with maximum dimensions of up to 56/36/38cm and weighing up to 24kg. When shopping at IKEA.co.uk or via the IKEA App, the system will assess itself whether a Parcel Machine® can be used to deliver products. The new delivery method will be available for approximately 4,000 items from the range available at IKEA.pl. The cost of the service is fixed at 12 PLN and the delivery time for such an order is 1-2 working days.
"I am convinced that IKEA customers will very quickly like using the new delivery option created by InPost. The network of 9,000 locations means that now the IKEA offer will be easily accessible to a much wider group of consumers - without having to leave home. It is worth noting that the price of the parcel - which can weigh up to 24 kg - is very attractive. According to the Gemius report, Paczkomat® InPost is already the most popular form of delivery of orders from online shops, chosen more often than courier delivery. What is more - the option of delivery to machines motivates almost 70% of customers to buy from a given online shop. Today, this form of delivery is a must have for every major online shop - in addition to 24/7 availability, it offers the possibility of contactless box opening via a mobile app." - said Rafał Brzoska, CEO of InPost
The carbon footprint calculator indicates that if traditional home courier deliveries were replaced by delivery to a parcel machine such as Paczkomat®, the reduction in CO2 emissions would be up to 75%[1]. Delivering a parcel to an InPost machine means at least 0.35 kg less CO2 emissions into the atmosphere per parcel. This makes InPost the most environmentally neutral logistics service provider.
„ By entering into a partnership with InPost, our customers receive a convenient way of delivering their products. The parcel machine® will allow them to receive them at any time, around the clock, with sanitary rigour, which is particularly important in the era of the coronavirus pandemic - says Andrzej Sadecki, Country Customer Experience Manager w IKEA. - In preparation for the launch of the service, we have adjusted the size of the packaging even more precisely to the size of the order. In this way, we minimise the use of paper and make optimal use of space when transporting shipments. Reducing our environmental impact is of paramount importance to us, which is why we are keen to ensure that the services we introduce contribute to our goals of People and Planet Positive and climate neutrality by 2030." - he adds.
InPost remains committed to minimising its environmental impact and inspiring others to take action to protect the environment. The average results for deliveries using the Paczkomat® device are just 0.229 kg CO2 over the entire route and only 0.075 kg CO2 over the last mile[1]. The recalculated carbon footprint takes into account the carbon footprint of the recipient's journey to the machine The carbon footprint of a delivery that takes into account the Parcel Machine® can be even lower if our arrival at the machine is also environmentally neutral - if we pick up the parcel on our way to work or while shopping, if we walk or cycle to it. Deliveries using the Parcel Machine® in 2019 reduced CO2 emissions by as much as is absorbed annually by more than 5 million pine trees (which cover an area of around 1,500 hectares).
According to a Gemius report[2], the Parcel Machine® has become the most frequently chosen form of delivery - overtaking couriers. This type of delivery of goods is preferred by up to 61% of online shoppers. This means an increase in the popularity of the service among internet users by as much as 9 percentage points compared to the results of the 2019 report. For the first time ever, the Paczkomat® devices offered by InPost beat courier deliveries in popularity, which are chosen by 55% of respondents - the first result of this kind in the world. In addition, as many as 68% of respondents declare that the possibility to pick up their purchases by InPost devices motivates them to buy from a specific online shop - an increase of 7 percentage points more year-on-year.
The number of machines offered by InPost (9000 machines in Poland) exceeded the scale of Poczta Polska's own outlets (4600[3]) . Paczkomat® InPost can also be found in Poland. at shops: Dino, Lidl, Kaufland, the Delikatesy Centrum chain of shops organised by the Eurocash Group, as well as at Auchan Shopping Centres. The functionalities of the InPost machines allow for the safe storage and collection of food, beverages and frozen food ordered online at Auchan Direct. According to a Kantar TNS survey, as many as 40% of online shoppers want Paczkomat® InPost to be able to collect their groceries.
In addition, InPost - responding to market demand - has launched a so-called Parcel Machine® InDoor. It is specifically designed for indoor installation. With it, property owners provide their residents and tenants with the most advantageous and popular shopping pick-up option. At the same time, they attract local residents to the location - allowing shops and service outlets to generate additional profits.

The app already has 4 million active users and records several hundred thousand remote openings per day. The software was on the podium of the download list in the Google Play and Appstore for eight weeks. Thanks to the app, multiple people can receive parcels at one machine at the same time. InPost will also soon make it possible to send parcels via an app installed on a smartphone. As part of its digitalisation strategy with InPost can now also be contacted using Google Assistant. The conversation starts by calling a bot called ChatBot Mat with the phrase "Talk to InPost".
