I don't think anyone doubts that electric cars are the future of motoring. Every now and then, new electrics are appearing that impress with their performance capabilities or user amenities. All fans of eco-driving are waiting for the new Polish electric car Izera. Unfortunately, there are many indications that the premiere is still a long way off. So what do other new electric cars offer?
New electric cars - what do they offer?
Major car manufacturers are constantly racing to make eco-friendly and technologically advanced electric models. Mercedes, Tesla and Volvo, among others, are battling it out on the market. Here are some noteworthy new electric cars and what they have to offer:
- Tesla Model Y - over 530 kilometres of range on a single charge, 2 motors running independently, less than 4 seconds to reach 100 km/h, cameras around the car, 15-inch screen, seating for 5 people;
- Volkswagen ID.5 - the design combines SUV and coupé, light technology that does not dazzle, navigation directions displayed on the windscreen so the driver feels like they are appearing on the road, the ability to stay in the lane on its own, memorising parking manoeuvres in specific locations;
- Renault Megane E-Tech - extensive speaker system, driving assistance mode such as when reversing out of a car park, traffic sign reading, up to 450 kilometres of range on a single charge, ultra-modern design;
- Volkswagen ID.Buzz - huge boot, lane changing support, fast charging function, ideal for families and businesses, around 420 kilometres of range on a single charge, designer LED lights that 'wink' at you,
- Škoda Enyaq - multiple safety systems, including automatic braking when the vehicle is in danger of a collision, range of up to around 500 kilometres on a single charge (depending on the version chosen), WiFi for those driving, navigation control via a mobile app;
- One of the most popular models of recent years, the Nissan Leaf automatically maintains the right distance from the car in front of it, with up to 385 kilometres of range on a single charge in the LEAF e+ version.

How much do new electric cars cost?
New electric cars are no small expense. Especially if you choose the extended version of a given model. Usually, prices of such vehicles from the showroom in basic versions start at just over PLN 200,000. A lot depends on which engine you choose, the range of the car and the power of the battery. The latest electric cars offer so many state-of-the-art driver assistance systems and a whole host of passenger amenities that, if you choose the most extended version of the car, the price can actually be quite a lot higher than the starting price.
What should you bear in mind when buying a new electric car?
If you are buying a new electric Polish car, or any car for that matter, you need to pay attention to the range it offers. This often differs on long journeys and when driving around town. Also remember to check where the nearest charging stations are, possibly installing your own in your garage. It is also important to bear in mind that even if electric cars are more expensive than petrol or diesel ones, the purchase is worth it, not least for economic reasons. This is because it contributes to protecting the environment in which you live every day.
