The electric car is an innovative solution that helps to reduce emissions in real terms. More and more models from different manufacturers are appearing on the market. More and more people are also choosing to resell their electric car to buy a newer model. Is it worth buying a used electric car? What should you pay particular attention to? Read below!
Used electric cars - the most popular models
Society is increasingly aware of the dangers of neglecting the environment. Ecological solutions are being put into practice and people are trying to adapt to the changes. An important step towards taking care of nature is the replacement of combustion cars with their ecological alternative. A significant increase in the number of registered electric cars on Polish roads can be observed from year to year. Which units from the category of electric vehicles in Poland are the most popular? These are:
- Ford Mustang Mach-E,
- Nissan Leaf,
- Skoda Citigo-E,
- Kia e-Niro,
- Tesla 3,
- BMW i3,
- Renault Zoe.
Although the popularity of electric cars in Poland continues to grow, their number is actually small compared to other European countries. This is due to the lack of adequate infrastructure to facilitate long-distance driving. Drivers, despite their desire to change their car to an eco-friendly one, often have to give up on the idea due to the small number of available charging stations and the length of time it takes to charge the batteries.
How much do used electric cars cost?
Electric cars are undoubtedly becoming increasingly popular on a global scale. The European Union wants to take further steps and plans to ban the sale of new cars with combustion engines by 2035. It is therefore worth taking an interest in alternative green cars, which have many advantages. However, not everyone will want or be able to drive a new model out of the showroom. What about in such a case?
Used electric cars - price
Used electrics are appearing on the market for sale, which can be bought on much more favourable terms. Prices of cheap used electric cars, range from PLN 20 000 to PLN 100 000, depending on the model and manufacturer. Unfortunately, a used electric car also means an additional cost of regeneration or even a complete replacement of the battery in the service, and its price can reach even PLN 150 000. Therefore, it is worth taking a close look at a used electric car before buying it and checking whether there is a need for additional repairs, which can cost even more than the car itself.
What should you consider when choosing a used electric car?
The aftermarket for electric cars is increasingly abundant. It is worth looking out for newer models that have the type of plugs according to your country's standards. Every car is completely different and differs in many ways. The most important thing to consider before buying is what your expectations, needs and financial possibilities are. What to look for when choosing a used electric car?
General technical condition of the car
With any second-hand item, there is a lack of 100% certainty about what you are getting. Before you decide on a great deal from a used electric vehicle for sale advert, inspect it carefully and ask for a test drive so you don't miss anything. Even a seemingly perfect-looking car may need repairs, so it's worth checking for additional faults.
Type of charging socket
An important element when choosing an electric car is its plug type. It has a fundamental impact on whether you will be able to recharge such a car with electricity at available stations. In Europe, Type 1 and Type 2 plug types tend to be used, and it is worth keeping an eye out for models that have a CHAdeMO plug, as these are slowly going out of circulation in favour of CCS plugs.
Battery stand
The most important component of electric cars is the battery, or rechargeable battery. The battery in an electric car, depending on the model and manufacturer, should be replaced every 6-8 years. If the battery is in bad shape, it will have to be replaced, which will cost from several dozen to over a hundred thousand zlotys. It is therefore worth opting for a car that will not require additional costs.
History auta
Before buying a used electric car, ask the owner about the vehicle's past. The most important thing is to ask if the car has been in an accident, if it has ever caused a problem and if it has been repaired. It is also worth checking the condition of the equipment. This will help you avoid any surprises you may encounter while driving.
Buying a second-hand car is always stressful, as you can never be 100 per cent sure whether everything is in order with the vehicle and whether you will suddenly have to grab your wallet and spend money on an expensive repair.
Who should choose a used electric car?
Increasingly, new customers are choosing to buy a used electric car. It has many advantages, the most important of which is that electrics are zero-emission. When driving such a car, there is no need to worry about the subsequent creation of exhaust fumes that pollute the environment. Add to this the fact of low running costs. However, new electric cars are very expensive and not everyone can afford a change. Fortunately, the second-hand market is increasingly offering used electric cars, so more drivers can swap their combustion vehicle for a green registration.
People who mainly need an electric car to drive to work, drop their children off at school or drive to the shop should opt for a used car. Before buying one should take into account the fact that the Polish infrastructure is not adapted to long-distance trips by such vehicles. Nevertheless, this is slowly changing, but patience is needed to make driving an electric car around the country free. This should particularly change over the coming years, as the European Union is planning to introduce bans on the registration of new combustion engine cars in the future.
Electric cars also require regular and fairly lengthy charging, which most people are not used to. We are used to refuelling taking a few minutes, so it may come as a surprise to many people that the battery in an electric car needs between an hour and a day to fully charge. Unfortunately, there are currently not many charging stations in Poland. In addition, at such points, queues to the charger would last for hours, as it takes an hour to fully charge the battery at the station. Homeowners with a garage can afford to install a private charger (wallbox) in the garage, which they can use at any time. Unfortunately, those who live in a block of flats have to request the installation of a charger, but the decision is up to the housing association and the building manager.
Why choose a used electric car?
A used electric car in good condition is not much different from a new one. The most important piece of equipment for an electric car is the battery, so if nothing has happened to it and it doesn't need replacing, it is definitely more worthwhile to buy a second-hand car. It will serve just as well as a newly purchased one.
There are also an increasing number of interesting offers on the internet, which are sure to be of interest to more than one person. Used electric cars are also encouraging because of their lower environmental impact than combustion cars. Electrics do not emit harmful substances that contribute to global warming and smog problems. In addition, it is worth taking an interest in buying such a vehicle due to plans to change the rules on the sale of new combustion cars within the EU.
There is also a myth circulating that a used electric car has an inferior range and can travel a much shorter distance when recharged. This is not always true and you should find out from the owner what condition the battery is in. Even a used car in good condition can perform as well as a new car straight from the showroom. What is important is that the battery and the driving of the car are properly looked after. If the previous owner did not have any problems with the car and did not have to have it repaired, then you are not in for any surprises.
Electric cars also have the added advantage that they are also very quiet - the engine doesn't make any noise when you drive, because it simply isn't there. You also don't have to worry about changing the oil, as it is not needed at all for the operation of the green vehicle.
An increasing number of interesting electric car models, both passenger cars and vans, are appearing on the market. The European Union's ambitious plans to eliminate harmful combustion vehicles will force many people to buy an electric car in the future. Surely the majority of the public will be persuaded to make this change when more stations with chargers for electric cars appear along highways and in cities. It is also worth keeping an eye on the second-hand market to know which used green car is worth buying.
