Poland's first closed-loop system for reusable packaging
InPost - a leader among e-commerce delivery platforms in Europe - together with the MODIVO platform international online fashion shop, are implementing a production version of InPost's EkoBox closed-loop packaging system after a period of testing. This is a concept of eco-friendly, reusable packaging and the first secondary packaging circulation system for e-commerce in Poland. Thanks to the reuse of EkoBox InPost, we can all reduce the number of discarded cardboard boxes by up to several times. InPost will make the possibility of joining the EkoBox programme available to any responsible e-commerce entity that wants to take care of the environment and reduce the amount of waste generated.
Every day, millions of cardboard boxes end up in the landfill after online purchases. Each parcel ordered with delivery to Paczkomat® InPost in an EkoBox and returned to the InPost machine is a chance to do something good for the planet. InPost is thus creating a community of eco-positive consumers who value living in harmony with nature. Every small gesture has a big eco-moment! The EkoBox boxes were created in collaboration with the Danish company ReZIP.
From June onwards, consumers will be able to use the EcoBox in the MODIVO online shop.
Over the past few months, we have been testing the EkoBox reusable packaging together with our partner. I can now confirm that the tests have been more than positive and that the EkoBox system has met with tremendous interest from our customers. This is why we have already decided to introduce our closed system for marketing reusable packaging on a full scale. We are doing this because the growing popularity of online shopping is contributing to an increase in the amount of packaging used and, consequently, waste. Year on year, it can be seen how fast the e-commerce industry is growing and what scale it will be in the future. It should be the responsibility of the industry to take action in this area. This is why, out of concern for environmental protection and the reduction of packaging waste, InPost is introducing a system of full packaging recycling and reuse. By using the EkoBox, we can reduce the amount of cardboard in circulation by up to ten times, thereby significantly reducing waste. The EkoBox is made of eco-friendly cardboard that is fully recyclable. It is FSC® certified, which demonstrates the use of certified raw materials in the packaging production process. This programme is based on the principles of sustainability and responsible forest management practices, as well as traceability of trade and production of wood products from certified forests. The creation of a closed packaging cycle system requires close cooperation between the logistics form and the retailer. InPost is the only company in Poland to be able to offer such a solution on a nationwide scale thanks to its network of nearly 17,000 InPost machines. I would like to confirm that, in response to requests from customers who would also like to use EkoBox, we will make the possibility of joining the EkoBox programme available to any responsible entity in the e-commerce industry that wants to contribute to reducing the amount of waste generated by the industry. Reducing the mountains of rubbish created by our civilisation is a challenge we need to tackle as soon as possible - Rafał Brzoska, CEO of InPost, emphasises.
How do I use the EcoBox service at MODIVO?
-
- When making a purchase at MODIVO and selecting Parcel Machine®, the customer will have the option of choosing the EkoBox® returnable packaging - during the promotion, this option will be free of charge
- The order will be packed in an InPost EkoBox.
- Once the parcel has been collected from the InPost machine and the ordered items have been removed, the consumer folds the box into the shape of an envelope and can immediately return it to any device by scanning the return code on the box.
- The folded box can, of course, be returned at another convenient time, i.e. when receiving the next shipment.
- The whole process takes a very short time and the packaging is returned to the shop, where it undergoes a quality verification and cleaning process before being redirected for reuse by MODIVO.
The entire return process is simple and free of charge, and for all supporters of ecological solutions and online shopping, this is an additional reason to order to the device. In addition, for each EkoBox® returned to the Paczkomat®, the customer will receive a voucher with a discount - up to 10% on subsequent purchases at Modivo.
The launch of the EkoBox packaging and service will be accompanied by an educational campaign. Together with the MODIVO brand, a series of activities will be carried out in social media and with Influencers. More information about EkoBox can be found at inpost.pl/ekobox.

InPost
InPost (AEX: INPST) is the leading delivery platform for e-commerce in Europe. Founded by Rafał Brzoska, InPost is now the leading delivery platform for e-commerce and has revolutionised the parcel market in Poland. The first Paczkomat® machines marked with a yellow and black logo appeared in Kraków in 2009 and very quickly became a characteristic feature of Polish cities. Today, InPost's network of machines is the largest and most convenient automatic network for receiving and sending parcels in Europe - a total of over 22,000 modern devices, of which almost 17,000 are already in Poland. InPost also provides courier and fulfilment services for e-commerce sellers in Poland, working with over 40,000 e-tailers. In 2021 alone, the company handled 517.6 million parcels through courier services and Paczkomat® machines.
From the very beginning, Rafał Brzoska's ambition was to go far beyond the country's borders and create Poland's biggest business success on the European stage. Today, InPost's services are also available to customers in the UK, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal and the Benelux countries. In July 2021, InPost acquired French logistics giant Mondial Relay for €513 million, which was the largest Polish private foreign investment. The company's listing on EURONEXT-Amsterdam in 2021 was the largest debut for a European technology company in the continent's history.
InPost's Paczkomat® machines provide consumers with a cheaper, flexible, convenient, environmentally friendly and contactless delivery option. In this way, InPost creates the greenest delivery solution for e-commerce - delivery to the machines reduces CO2 emissions by two-thirds compared to courier deliveries in urban areas and by as much as 90% in rural areas. In addition, it reduces congestion and provides a more convenient solution for delivering parcels to consumers 24/7 and without having to wait at home. InPost's mobile app 'InPost Mobile' is one of the most popular apps in Poland.
