Electromobility is the future of the automotive market, but its dynamic development is happening here and now. Electric cars - the most popular models in Poland
Electric cars - the history of these vehicles dates back to the mid-19th century, when a Scotsman, Robert Anderson, constructed the first of its kind. Quickly, subsequent designers from various countries, including the United States, France and Germany, began to develop their answers to electric cars. As these vehicles were not very fast, combustion cars replaced them in the 20th century. Electrics returned to favour in the United States in the 1980s. The 1970s saw the start of production of the Polish Melex electric vehicles, which are now known almost all over the world. In recent years, more and more electric cars and hybrids can be seen on the streets of Polish cities. Here are some of the most popular models:
- Nissan Leaf - is one of the most popular models not only in Poland, but also in Europe. It is characterised by high performance and comes in two variants: in the basic version it is able to drive almost 300 kilometres on a single charge, and in the extended version - almost 400. It is capacious, and thanks to its popularity, it can be easily bought at an attractive second-hand price;
- BMW i3 - you will only need to charge this model after about 260 kilometres. It is slightly more expensive than the Nissan, and its design will appeal to fans of originality. It is a small and agile electric car that is perfect for the city;
- Renault Zoe - the car in the French range can travel almost 400 kilometres on a single charge. Its popularity has been growing recently, as it was previously only sold as a package, where a leased battery was added. Now its price is very similar to the Nissan;
- Škoda Citigo-e IV - this is one of the newest cars on the market and has been an almost instant success. It debuted in 2020 and is today among the most popular electric cars in Poland. It is capable of driving 260 kilometres on a single charge. Its undeniable advantage is its low price compared to other models;
- Tesla Model S - the most expensive electric car in the list, aimed at lovers of luxury and high performance. This model represents the electric car with the longest range - it will travel up to 600 kilometres without a charge.

Does it pay to invest in electric cars?
The electric car is an investment that quite a few businesses and individuals are considering. They definitely represent the future of motoring and are one of the main ways to combat global warming. It is also worth investing in electric and hybrid cars for other reasons. They are cheaper to maintain than buying ever-increasingly expensive petrol, even though they involve a larger initial investment. Fortunately, new electric cars can be purchased with subsidies of up to several tens of thousands of zlotys. These vehicles break down less frequently, allowing for further savings, as discussed later in this article.
Electric vs petrol cars - a comparison of costs and savings
There is a drawback associated with electric cars - the prices of some models may be high, but the models available in Poland are an investment in user comfort and a better tomorrow for our planet. Driving costs per 100 kilometres for electrics are almost three times lower than for a petrol vehicle. As we mentioned earlier, electric cars break down much less frequently. This is due to their simpler design and fewer components that can break down. Therefore, it is estimated that their potential repairs are half as much as for petrol cars. Electric cars - where to charge these types of vehicles? The cars can be powered both at home and at special charging stations. In addition, there is every indication that new electric cars may in future be powered primarily by solar panels. For the time being, such models are not yet in widespread use.
Based on the above data, you already know which electric cars you are most likely to meet on Polish streets. We also checked the approximate maintenance costs of such a car, from which it is clear - electrics are the future and an excellent way to invest.
