Electric car subsidies - what do they consist of?
Government subsidies for electric cars consist of the possibility of receiving a subsidy for the purchase of a new car. Those wishing to purchase an electric-powered vehicle may receive up to PLN 27,000 in subsidies for its purchase, depending on the conditions met. The condition is that it must be an electric vehicle. The assumptions do not include a subsidy for hybrid cars.
The introduction of the 'My Electric' programme is intended to serve to increase buyer interest in environmentally friendly electric cars. And this is happening, as the distinctive green number plates for electrics can increasingly be seen on the roads. Since the electric car subsidy was introduced, almost 2,000 people have benefited from it.
Who can benefit from electric car subsidies?
Anyone can actually benefit from the subsidy for electric cars in Poland. Subsidies are granted to both natural persons and entrepreneurs who have their own companies. In addition, people who want to buy a car for cash as well as those who prefer to lease a vehicle can also benefit from the subsidy for electric cars.
How much are the subsidies for electric cars?
How much subsidy for electric cars you can receive depends mainly on what conditions you meet. The amount of the subsidy is PLN 18,750 for natural persons, as well as entrepreneurs. A higher subsidy for electric cars can be obtained by holders of the Large Family Card, in which case it is PLN 27,000. Subsidies for electric cars for companies of the same amount can be obtained by entrepreneurs who declare an expected annual mileage of the car of more than 15 thousand kilometres.
Entrepreneurs can also apply for subsidies for electric cars, which are vans in the N1 category. Subsidies for this type of car can be 50,000 or 70,000 depending on the number of eligible costs and the annual mileage of the car. Self-employed persons may also receive subsidies for vehicles in the L1e-L7e category, i.e. vehicles in the form of, for example, scooters or small four-wheelers - the maximum subsidy amount is then PLN 4,000.
Electric car subsidies - what conditions must be met?
What do you need to do to benefit from the electric car subsidy? The conditions you need to meet are very simple. One of them is that you need to buy a new car powered by electricity or hydrogen, with a budget of no more than PLN 225,000. However, this limit does not apply to holders of the Large Family Card.
It should also be borne in mind that the applicant must first buy the car and only then apply for the subsidy. A big plus is the possibility of receiving reimbursement for part of the costs incurred for a car already purchased. The condition is that the car is purchased between 1 May 2020 and 31 December 2025.
You also need to know that not all vehicles count towards the possibility of receiving an electric car subsidy. The regulation specifies exactly which vehicles these can be. For individuals, only cars in the M1 category, i.e. mainly passenger cars, are included. For businesses, the number of vehicles that are available is greater. They can receive subsidies for electrics not only from the M1 category, but also those from the N1 category (small vans) and L1e-L7e (two-, three- and four-wheelers).
However, receiving a subsidy for an electric car comes with certain obligations that you must meet when you already own the car. First and foremost, it must have been both registered in Poland for at least two years in the name of the applicant and insured against theft, damage, destruction as well as other fortuitous events. The vehicle must also not have been lent to other persons, especially companies.
In addition, cars that are purchased through participation in the 'My Electric Car' programme cannot be sold for two years after receiving the electric car subsidy. If these conditions are not met, it must be borne in mind that the subsidy may be withdrawn and will have to be repaid.
Why take advantage of electric car subsidies?
Every year, the popularity of electric-powered vehicles is growing. There are many advantages in favour of applying for a subsidy for this type of car. More and more stations are appearing that allow charging of electrics, so you don't have to worry about not being able to 'refuel' them. In addition, it is becoming faster and faster.
Newly manufactured electric vehicles also offer a significantly longer range than before. They are also significantly cheaper to maintain than combustion cars - fewer components translate into less frequent servicing. Their benefits are particularly likely to be felt by drivers who frequently drive around town. This is because electric car owners are able to drive on a bus pass and can also park for free in the pay parking zone in most cities.
The opportunity to benefit from electric car subsidies is a great one for all drivers. Thanks to the subsidy they receive, they can save money by purchasing a new electric car that is not only comfortable but also environmentally friendly.
