The development of new technologies makes it increasingly common to hear about electric cars with a range of 1,000 km. However, there is still no such electric car on Polish roads and motorways. Are cars with such a range of kilometres really anywhere? Or is it just a myth? From this article you will find out if it is possible that one charge can power a car for such a long distance. See what the interior might look like in such a car!
An electric car with a range of 1,000 km - which car has such a range?
Currently, the maximum range of an electric car that can be afforded when buying such a vehicle in Poland is around 600 kilometres on a single charge. Global electric vehicle manufacturers are constantly improving their designs and creating concepts for new models with greater capabilities. This has led to proposals such as the Nio ET5, the Mercedes Vision EQXX, the Volvo Concept Recharge or the Zhiji L7. What do all these models have in common? The fact that they have a range of up to 1,000 kilometres on a single charge. This is significantly more than, for example, the range of the Tesla electric car, which is regarded as one of the flagship models worldwide. For the time being, only the Nio ET5 has an officially announced release date, but there is no indication that it is heading to Poland any time soon. China's 1,000 km electric car will first take to its home country's roads.
What has been upgraded in the new generation of electric cars that reach a range of 1,000 km?
Electric cars with a range of 1,000 km must have ultra-high-capacity batteries. For a car to be able to travel such a distance on a single charge, the battery capacity should be as high as around 150 kWh. However, power alone is not everything and the overall design of the vehicle is also hugely important. It should be as light as possible, as more weight results in faster energy consumption. The Mercedes EQXX, for example, is designed with special tyres that create low drag, as well as a modern and lightweight body structure that focuses on aerodynamics. The design of the vehicle is very streamlined in order to create as little drag as possible. Solar panels are mounted in the roof to further support the battery and add up to more than 20 kilometres of range.
Similar solutions can be seen in Volvo's design. The brand's SUV, which aims to be a 1,000 km electric car, has a very slim design and a long wheelbase. Upgraded charging systems can be seen in new designs such as the Zhiji L7. This means that the Chinese car can be charged both with a cable and wirelessly. Even so, the charging time for such capacious batteries still promises to be very long. However, the manufacturers promise to work on shortening it. A sign of innovation in the new generation of electric cars are the huge screens of several tens of inches. These can be seen in both the Mercedes and the Zhiji. The interiors of these cars are very minimalist compared to the models known so far. This not only gives them a modern feel, but also allows them to reduce weight and energy consumption.
Are electric cars with a range of 1,000 km available on the automotive market?
Wondering if you can already buy an electric car with a range of 1,000 km? Unfortunately, this is not yet possible. Most of the models developed so far are only concepts that have not yet gone on sale or even into mass production. Some are due to go on sale in the second half of 2022, such as the Nio ET5 in China. When will they supply the Polish market? This is not known, but such models will certainly reach European customers in various countries in the future.
To build an electric car with the greatest range requires talented engineers, as well as highly developed battery technology. Work is underway on batteries from the innovative Our Next Energy brand, in which different cells work together to make the batteries much more efficient. After testing ONE batteries, it has been possible to achieve a Tesla with a range of 1,000 km and even more. These batteries have a capacity of over 200 kWh, allowing for truly astonishing performance.
When will it be possible to buy electric cars with a range of 1,000 km?
Many drivers choose not to buy an electric car because they are discouraged by the low efficiency of the models currently available on the market. A car that offers 200 or 300 kilometres of range on a single charge will not satisfy a family that wants to go on holiday to the mountains or the seaside. Discerning consumers would prefer an electric car with the greatest possible range. Then they would definitely decide to buy an electric car more often. There is still a bit of a wait for such possibilities. Although tests are already underway, the revolutionary cars will probably only hit showrooms and service stations in a few years. The truth is that, especially in the beginning, only the wealthiest will be able to afford them. We also have to reckon with the fact that sooner or later everyone will switch to electric cars for environmental reasons. What seems difficult to achieve now will probably be the norm for future generations.
If the development of electrics continues in the direction it is now, there is a very good chance that cars with a range of 1,000 km will soon go from being an incredible-sounding myth to a reality. It will definitely be a revolution on a global scale. Perhaps in a decade or so you will be able to get into your electric Mercedes, Porsche or Audi and drive from Wrocław to Gdańsk and back, without having to charge along the way. Currently, every test and innovation matters. I wonder what the future will bring and what range of cars will be enough to convince more drivers to go electric?
