Electric car charging points in Poland are still developing. Electromobility infrastructure is so far mainly located in large cities or along major roads. Find out how to use the charging points and where to find free stations.
Electric car charging points - how to use them?
Electric car charging points operate in exactly the same way as petrol stations. All you have to do is drive up to the terminal and plug the charger into the socket on your car. However, you should first check whether the plug corresponding to your electric car is available at the electric car charging point in question. Poland and other EU countries have adopted the Type 2 charger as the standard. However, if you have a car of a different standard or are going on a journey abroad, check the compatibility of the charger with your car.
Are electric car charging points free?
Charging points for electric cars were free until recently. There were so few users of zero-emission cars that the costs associated with charging outweighed the profits from refuelling. However, as time went on, so did the growth of electromobility. The proliferation of green vehicles continues as interest in green motoring grows year on year.
Nowadays, electric car charging points usually require the payment of a fee for the electricity consumed. Charging stations have their own price lists, which depend on both the amount of energy drawn and the type of power supply or speed provided.
However, it is worth knowing that some charging points for electric cars in Poland allow you to top up your batteries for free. Where to charge electric cars free of charge? Free battery recharging is often offered by stations located near markets or in shopping centres. The stations are intended for customers who want to charge their electric car's battery while shopping. Sometimes, free charging points are also placed in office buildings. This allows people employed in the building to recharge their battery while they are at work.
How long does it take to charge electric cars?
The length of time an electrician can be charged depends on the capacity of its battery, as well as the power of the charger. There are two basic types of charger on the market. The first is the AC type, which uses alternating current and therefore charges the car for quite a long time. The second charger variant is a model with a DC designation. This type of power supply is more efficient as it charges with direct current. The advantage of the DC charger is also that it has more power and amperage than the equivalent AC version.
Electric car fast charging points (i.e. those with a DC power supply) are able to top up the battery in as little as 20 or 30 minutes. However, at stations with less efficient chargers, the car can draw electricity for up to several hours. It is a good idea to use AC chargers at work, when shopping or in the garage - in short, when you are not in a hurry.
