Air pressure sensors - what are they?
Air pressure sensors are broadly defined measuring devices that are based on atmospheric pressure behaviour. They are usually sensitive mechanisms that are part of larger systems that monitor air pressure changes and provide information about them. Air pressure sensors are products that are used in a wide range of fields, especially those related to technology and mechanics.
How does the air pressure sensor work?
The main function of an air pressure sensor is to record changes in the pressure level in an area or object. Depending on the type of pressure gauge, their operation is based on different mechanisms. The basis of operation is to measure the pressure and compare the results with an accepted baseline. In the case of a liquid barometer, for example, the pressure is measured by observing the flow of a liquid of a particular density; the amplitude of the height indicates the differences in pressure that arise. It is used to determine atmospheric pressure.
The altimeter, on the other hand, takes measurements using air. An air pressure sensor is programmed for the measurement (the idea is to set the correct pressure level to which the measurements will be related); the measured pressure is then introduced into a closed container with a flexible can inside. Depending on the pressure of the air pressure, the can contracts or expands, displaying the pressure level on the altimeter dial counter. Air pressure sensor - application
The application of air pressure sensors is very wide. Most technological processes, such as the manufacture of equipment, the joining of parts and mechanisms, are automated. In order to control the pressure of the machines and their operation, the level of pressure to be applied to the manufactured mechanisms is adjusted.
Other examples of applications include the intake air pressure sensor in engines or the TPMS system, used to control the pressure in car tyres. How do you check the air pressure level? The measurement takes place while driving and the device is mounted in the tyre. The air pressure sensor is located in each wheel - you can see from its readings that the inflation level changes when the tyres are not evenly inflated.
Depending on the type, the tyre pressure sensor measures tyre pressure differently - there are direct and indirect sensors. The former measures the tyre pressure directly while driving, separately from each wheel. There is a controller inside the car to which all the sensors are connected. When differences or changes in pressure are recorded, the system informs the driver. The intermediate sensors are based on the ABS/ESP systems - they check the rotation speed of the wheels on the same axle. If the system records a difference of more than 20%, it displays the information in the form of a signal on the dashboard.
Electronic air pressure sensors can take various forms and can be, for example, a module in a larger system in the form of a barometric sensor.
